WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) announced that Rachael N. DeGarmo, Valley Center, and Dustin Morris, Wichita, are serving as U.S. Senate Interns in his Washington, D.C. office this spring.
“Rachael and Dustin are doing important work for Kansans and gaining valuable experience that will help them in the future.” Sen. Moran said. “I was an intern myself — it’s what got me interested in public service. Interns continue to prove to me that there are a lot of great, young people across our state who have an interest in doing something with their lives that will make a difference in the lives of others. They remind me that I need to do my job well so they have great futures, but also inspire me that good things are going to happen in this country because we have good kids in Kansas.”
DeGarmo is a 2010 graduate of Valley Center High School, and currently a senior at Wichita State University. She is working toward a bachelor’s degree in political science, and after graduation plans to work in the public sector.
“To have the opportunity to be part of such a hard-working, passionate group of individuals who are dedicated to serving Kansans out here in Washington, D.C. has been a unique and invaluable experience,” DeGarmo said. “Seeing the inner workings of the federal government is exciting, fast-paced and hard work. Overall, the opportunity to work for Senator Jerry Moran has truly been a rewarding experience.”
Morris is a 2009 graduate from Wichita Independent High School. He is a senior at the University of Kansas, and working toward a bachelor’s degree in political science, as well as minoring in economics. Post-graduation, Morris would like to join the U.S. Foreign Service and work in an embassy.
“It has been great to see how Congress operates first-hand,” Morris said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Kansas and gain crucial experience for my future professional carrier.”
DeGarmo and Morris assist Sen. Moran with legislative and administrative duties on behalf of the state of Kansas.
