WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) – chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies – applauded the Senate’s confirmation of Ryan McCarthy as Under Secretary of the Army. Mr. McCarthy honorably served our nation as an Army Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment and was the Special Assistant to former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

“I am encouraged by Mr. McCarthy’s personal experience as an Army Ranger and desire to better the lives of soldiers and their families, particularly those who call Fort Riley home,” said Sen. Moran. “He understands all too well that taking care of soldiers means taking care of their families, and I look forward to working with Mr. McCarthy to improve the quality of life for all Army families.”

On July 25, 2017, Mr. McCarthy met with Sen. Moran to discuss the strategic importance of Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth to the United States Army. Mr. McCarthy is familiar with the capabilities of and investments in Fort Riley – having visited several years ago when serving then-Defense Secretary Roberts Gates – and was instrumental in helping the Secretary execute his promise of constructing new schools for Army children and families stationed at Fort Riley.
