WASHINGTON – This week, the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations announced that U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) will serve as the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS).

“This subcommittee will be critical in tackling key issues impacting our nation in the coming years from supporting our law enforcement agencies to space exploration to making certain we are able to compete with China in global commerce,” said Sen. Moran. “As the ranking member, I will work to support our nation’s efforts to shore up our supply chain, provide resources to our law enforcement to reduce crime, and make certain we are able to continue exploring deeper into space.”

Sen. Moran’s Priorities for the 118th Congress: 

  • Semiconductor Production: Overseeing the implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act to ensure a stable, secure U.S. supply of semiconductors that will benefit our country’s economic and national security.
  • Space Exploration: Providing support for NASA’s Artemis program and prioritizing STEM education which will ensure a ready generation to carry on our nation’s space goals.
  • Law Enforcement: Continuing to lead efforts to improve policing in America, through innovative, bipartisan programs that give law enforcement the tools and training they need to do their jobs and do them well.
  • Combating Fentanyl Deaths: Ensuring federal law enforcement, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and federal prosecutors, have the resources they need to combat the Mexican cartels that are flooding our communities with fentanyl and causing countless tragic deaths.
  • Research and Development: Supporting research agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and NASA to advance our country’s research and development capabilities.
  • Broadband: Making certain recently created federal programs work to bring high-quality, high-speed internet to every household in Kansas, especially in rural or hard-to-reach communities who need broadband access.
