Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Wichita State University's National Center for Aviation Training will host a "Next Giant Leap" symposium Monday with key representatives of NASA, the Department of Defense, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, SpaceX and United Launch Alliance.

The 9 a.m. symposium, coming two days after the 50th anniversary of astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landing on the moon, will feature remarks from Moran and Jim Bridenstine, NASA administrator.

Panel discussions on the future of space exploration and space defense and deterence will follow beginning at 10 a.m.

The space exploration panel will be made up of Bridenstine; Richard Ambrose, executive vice president of space for Lockheed Martin; John Elbon, COO of United Launch Alliance; Blake Larson, innovation systems sector president of Northrop Grumman; Benji Reed, directory of crew mission management for SpaceX; John Tomblin, vice president for research and technology transfer at WSU; and Sheree Utash, president of WSU Tech.

At 11:15, the space defense panel will be made up of Leanne Caret, CEO of Boeing Defense; Ellen Lord=, under secretary of defense for acquisition and sustainment; Duane Hawkins, senior vice president of Spirit AeroSystems; Will Roper, assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition; and Tomblin.
