The contingent of companies and government officials from around Kansas attending the Paris Air Show this week got things started Sunday with a reception that drew the global aviation industry’s focus on the state’s capabilities.

And, not surprisingly, Wichita took a starring role.

“I want Wichita to not only be called the ‘Air Capital of the World,’ I want it to be the ‘Air Capital of the World,’” says U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran.

Moran, a Kansas Republican, helped organize the reception, which included collaboration with the likes of the Kansas Department of Commerce and Greater Wichita Partnership, along with the cadre of local companies attending the show, such as Spirit AeroSystems Inc. (NYSE: SPR) and the Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) division of Textron Aviation.
