WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, today asked Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Jon Lebowitz to make certain the FTC conducts evaluations of technology firms with the greater American economy in mind.

“While our nation has traditionally lead the world in technological innovation, the United States now faces increasing competitive pressure from other countries: there is fierce competition to attract the world’s best and brightest; theft of intellectual property remains an issue for many American companies, entrepreneurs and artists; and our country’s crippling debt remains a major challenge for the future,” Sen. Moran said in a letter to the FTC Chairman. “Amidst this increasing international competition, the last thing the American economy needs is one more barrier that makes the United States a less attractive place to start a business.

“Consumers have more options and choices online than ever before – a result of a robust and competitive marketplace of technological advancement, investment, and economic growth,” Sen. Moran continued. “I encourage the Commission to remain focused on addressing concrete consumer harms and take into consideration the impact of their decisions on innovation, entrepreneurship and the economy.”

U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today expressed his concerns about recent reports indicating a steep decline in absentee ballot requests from military personnel and their spouses compared to 2008. Reports also indicate that on-base voter assistance for military service members, which was mandated by the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act of 2009, is inadequate.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) released the following statement in response to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech today at the United Nations in New York, NY:

“If the Palestinians wish to establish a sovereign state, they must first recognize Israel as a Jewish state and take part in sincere negotiations with Israel. False accusations and misguided plans at the United Nations are a distraction that will not result in statehood – instead, they impede the peace process. Direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians are not just the best way to achieve a lasting peace, they are the only way.”

Moran, Cardin Lead Bipartisan Call for Cuba to Release American Alan Gross

44 Senators Send a Letter to Cuban President Castro urging a humanitarian release

Sep 25 2012

Washington, D.C. - obstacle" to improving bilateral relations, a bipartisan group of nearly half the U.S. Senate, led by Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), has written to Cuban President Raúl Castro asking him to finally release Marylander Alan Gross on humanitarian grounds. WASHINGTON, DC – Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today released the following statement in response to Siemens Corp.’s announcement that it will restructure its wind power division:

“Numerous hard-working Kansans and their families will be affected by this decision, and by no fault of their own, find themselves uncertain about their future today. Siemens Corp. picked Kansas because our workers are second-to-none. I am confident the Hutchison community will come together to support those affected and I am committed to working with them to make certain Hutchinson’s skilled manufacturing workforce has the assistance they need to bounce back.

“The downturn in U.S. wind installation using Siemens Wind Power components is in large-part a result of the uncertainty coming from Washington. Kansas leads the nation in wind-production capacity currently under construction, but the wind-energy industry has stopped making long-term investments in their businesses because of Washington’s unwillingness to craft a comprehensive domestic energy policy. Today’s announcement foreshadows what will happen across Kansas if we do not take serious steps toward becoming energy independent; jobs will be lost, local economies will suffer millions of dollars in losses, and every Kansan will ultimately be affected, because our ability to access our natural resources contributes to the cost of electricity and transportation fuels.”
