KANSAS CITY, KS – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) this weekend participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new University of Kansas (KU) Cancer Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Sen. Moran was joined by Dr. Roy Jensen, Chancellor Douglas Girod, Dr. Jeffrey Holzbeierlein, Governor Laura Kelly, Bob Page, President and Chief Executive Officer of The University of Kansas Health System, and Tammy Peterman, President of the Kansas City Division The University of Kansas Health System.
“The work being done at the KU Cancer Center is saving lives, and this work will be continued and bolstered by the addition of this new cancer center, expanding the availability of cancer treatment and providing new resources for cancer research,” said Sen. Moran. “The federal investments will help KU build another world-class research and clinical space here in Kansas City that will continue to make KU Cancer Center a global destination for cancer treatment and research.”
As the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science and a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education Sen. Moran helped secure $69 million in federal resources to build and equip the new facility.
