WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) issued the following statement today on the death of U.S. Army Specialist James R. Burnett, Jr., age 21, of Wichita, Kansas, who was killed on November 16, 2011, in the Kandahar Province of Afghanistan. According to initial reports, Specialist Burnett died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. He was assigned to A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
