WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Roger Marshall, M.D., (R-Kan.) and U.S. Representative Ron Estes (KS-04) urged Acting United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Doug Tulino to retain the presence of a United States Post Office in Park City, Kansas, in support of Park City’s request to USPS.

“We write to express our support of Park City, Kansas’ request to retain its current Contract Postal Unit (CPU) located at 6223 North Broadway Street, or obtain a new Post Office location,” wrote the delegation. “Park City is currently experiencing unprecedented amounts of commercial and residential growth, and we feel that this growth should be supported with the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) presence somewhere within the city’s limits.”

“USPS provides critical support to communities across Kansas by supporting economic growth through the delivery of goods to businesses, medicine to disabled veterans, and ballots to local election offices,” the delegation continued. “In many instances, USPS is seen as the lifeline of these very communities and a gap in services would result in devastating consequences for businesses and residents alike. A loss of postal services would be detrimental to the community and create additional obstacles for residents and business owners.”

“We believe it would be remiss of the Postal Service to not have a presence in a city where the population is expected to exceed 12,000 in the next 5 to 10 years,” the delegation concluded.

Dear Postmaster Tulino:

We write to express our support of Park City, Kansas’ request to retain its current Contract Postal Unit (CPU) located at 6223 North Broadway Street, or obtain a new Post Office location.  Park City is currently experiencing unprecedented amounts of commercial and residential growth, and we feel that this growth should be supported with the United States Postal Service’s (USPS) presence somewhere within the city’s limits.

Dating back to the 1950s, Park City was originally founded as a public housing district that provided housing for employees of Boeing and other employers in the aerospace industry in the Greater Wichita area.  Today, the city is an independent municipality and is home to nearly 9,300 Kansans and continues to be a major attraction for industry and those relocating to Sedgwick County.

USPS provides critical support to communities across Kansas by supporting economic growth through the delivery of goods to businesses, medicine to disabled veterans, and ballots to local election offices.  In many instances, USPS is seen as the lifeline of these very communities and a gap in services would result in devastating consequences for businesses and residents alike. A loss of postal services would be detrimental to the community and create additional obstacles for residents and business owners.

The management of Leeker’s Family Foods, the current contract holder for the CPU, has informed us that they are eager to negotiate a contract that is more financially favorable to the USPS, having a contract that was far more favorable to USPS prior to 2019. Negotiating a new contract in the short term would ensure Park City residents maintain consistent USPS service while also allowing your team to explore long-term viability and options.

We believe it would be remiss of the Postal Service to not have a presence in a city where the population is expected to exceed 12,000 in the next 5 to 10 years.
