Commissioning the USS Wichita

I was honored to deliver the keynote address at the USS Wichita Commissioning Ceremony at Naval Station Mayport near Jacksonville, Florida earlier this month. The third ship to bear the name “Wichita,” this new, versatile and agile warship will help carry out drug trafficking, minesweeping, anti-submarine and humanitarian missions in every corner of the world.
 
Wichita represents people of strength, patriotism and perseverance, and I am confident that the crew of the USS Wichita will share those same traits in the tasks and challenges that lie ahead. In their time aboard this ship – our ship – we pray for their safety and express our gratitude for their dedicated service to our country.
