As our nation recognizes National Police Week, I want to share with you my tribute to the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty over the last year, including six Kansans.

As you know all too well, very little about being a law enforcement officer can be described as easy. You work around the clock and under difficult circumstances to keep our communities safe and often without the recognition that you deserve. It’s time to change that. You are American heroes and I join all Kansans in thanking you for your daily sacrifice and tireless work to protect our communities.

As the lead Republican on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Department of Justice, I am committed to making certain you have the resources and support you need to do your jobs effectively and safely.
