WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today welcomed Megan Myungwon Lee, the Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Panasonic Corporation of North America, to Washington, D.C. for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s address to a joint meeting of Congress.

“As a nation, we are stronger because of our friendship and alliance with Japan, both through our defense strategies and commerce,” said Sen. Moran. “Kansas recently welcomed the Japan-based company Panasonic to build a state-of-the-art electric vehicle battery plant in De Soto. These kinds of partnerships bolster the economies of both our countries and advance our shared technological priorities. I was pleased to invite Panasonic’s CEO, Megan Myungwon Lee, to Congress to partake in this important moment in the Japan-U.S. relationship.”

In November 2022, Panasonic Energy Co. began construction on a new lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in De Soto. Panasonic is a multinational electronics company headquartered in Japan.
