WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today announced he will support the nominees for the Amtrak Board of Directors who will receive votes in the Senate this week. The White House has confirmed to Sen. Moran that they intend to comply with the law and nominate individuals to fill the remaining open seats on the Amtrak Board of Directors who represent regions outside of the Northeast Corridor.

“Amtrak trains serve over 525 stations across the country, and most of these stations are located in rural communities,” said Sen. Moran. “The members of the Amtrak Board of Directors who craft and guide Amtrak policies must represent passengers and stations from across the nation, as required by law. Last year the White House failed to nominate a slate of representatives to meet this requirement, and I continue to urge the White House to select a nominee who understands the needs of rural America.”

“The White House has since committed to comply with the law and will be sending the Senate nominees that better represent all passenger needs,” continued Sen. Moran. “Upon that commitment, I intend to advance the Amtrak Board of Directors nominees this week, so they can get to work bolstering our entire nation’s rail system.”
